History and Purpose
The Living Valley team includes therapists, naturopaths, carers and administrators all dedicated to providing you with a high level of genuine care and the best opportunity to heal, using the most effective therapies, information and clinical advice available. Living Valley is more than just a relaxation retreat; it is an experienced team of professional carers who exist to improve your life.
The basis of the Living Valley Program was developed by Master Herbalist, Dr Al Wolfsen in the 1940s in the USA. In 1986 Dr Wolfsen conducted a training course in Australia for selected therapists who had demonstrated an interest in establishing genuine health retreats in this country. After learning the Wolfsen program in 1988, naturopaths Gary Martin and Les Shaw, with their families, established a small health retreat in Northern NSW, known as the Border Ranges Centre for Health and Lifestyle.
For two years they tried and tested the Dr Wolfsen cleanse protocol, achieving remarkable results for patients who shared their stories far and wide. During the late 1980’s, Gary and Les were invited to conduct lifestyle seminars throughout Australia, then in 1990 they moved the retreat to Kin Kin, establishing Living Valley Springs. Les retired in 1993. By 2007, staff numbers had increased to 60 personnel while guest numbers soared to over 5000 guest nights per year. By 2014, the Living Valley team had accommodated and attended to the needs of over 10,000 guests.
Gary’s daughter, Giselle, works alongside Gary to ensure that all guests receive optimum care. With over 25 years’ experience in natural health and healing, Giselle supervises the entire operation.
